Located in the northwest of Shanghai, Jiading District covers an area of 458.8 square kilometers. Jiading District is located about 20 km away from downtown Shanghai. Jiading District has evident advantages in science and technology, prosperous cultural business and flourishing mass activities. Numerous scenic spots and historic sites are mainly situated in the historically and culturally famous towns – Jiading Town and Nanxiang Town, which proves the district to be one of the important cultural cradles of Shanghai.

The manufacturing of autos and auto fittings is a mainstay of the economy of Jiading District and the high development of auto industry has won the district the fame as the "Auto City". The Shanghai International Automobile Center that covers an area of over 60 square kilometers was built in the ancient charming Anting Town in Jiading District. This is where Shanghai Volkswagen Co., Ltd. is located. Anting Town has developed to be the largest international automotive trading center, exhibition center, logistics center, R&D center, information center and service in Asia.

The Shanghai International Circuit is also located in Jiading District.
